The Center for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB) reports that in square meters, 13.6 million were shipped in March, 10% less than the same month in 2021, but 18.3% more than February, when the total was 11.5 million square meters.

The first quarter of the year totals US$331.8 million, 3.9% more than the same period in 2021, but 18.4% lower in area, with 37.2 million square meters.

The biggest market for Brazilian leather, China, has been recording drops in shipments caused mainly by the severe health restrictions in the country. Major cities, such as Shanghai and Shenzhen are blocked and with few alternatives for transit. All truck traffic is at a standstill. On the other hand, Italy and the United States started to show improvements in the indices compared to the previous period.

In general the CICB points out that March showed recovery in value over the same month last year and over February. However, the most important thing was the growth in volumes over the previous month, which was +18.3% in area and +24.9% in weight. Despite these improvements, the indexes remain below the corresponding months of the last two years.
