LVMH further affirms its commitment to research and development for sustainable luxury. For the first time, the focus of a study to develop a fiber capable of mimicking a number of high-end materials, including fur, will be keratin. Together with its Fendi house, the French luxury giant has started a strategic collaboration that exploits the potential of academic research in the field of design and science to prototype new bio-fabrics. The two-year research initiative was launched in collaboration with Imperial College London and Central Saint Martins to develop new laboratory-grown fleece fibers for fashion production. The four companies are committed to developing research in regenerative luxury by bringing together the skills in synthetic biology of Professor Tom Ellis of Imperial College and Professor Carole Collet of Central Saint Martins in bio-design to grow new functional biomaterials for the high sector of range.
