We are underway in Novo Hamburgo for the 33rd IULTCS Congress, and following opening formalities, the IULTCS executive committee bestowed the 2015 IULTCS Merit Award for Excellence in the Leather Industry to renowned leather scientist Professor Bi Shi.
Dr. Shi completed his studies on leather and chemistry at Sichuan and Sheffield Universities, and spent a year as visiting scholar at Nene College, which would later become the University of Northampton.
Today, he is director of the National Engineering Laboratory for Clean Technology of Leather Manufacture of Sichuan University, in Chengdu, China, and also serves as an academic of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
