338 Bangladesh Factories Running During Lockdown

Some 338 factories are running their operations across Bangladesh during the 14-day strict lockdown that began on July 23rd, according to the country’s police. These factories, mostly pharmaceuticals, food processing, and emergency product manufacturers, are located in Ashulia, on the outskirts of Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Khulna.

Of them, 113 factories are open in Gazipur while 15 in Chattogram, 57 in Narayanganj, 88 in Khulna, 32 in Mymensingh and 33 in Savar-Ashulia.

Md Sakhwat Hossain, superintendent of police of industrial Police 1, said they were patrolling the industrial areas so that no industries can run operations defying the restrictions during the lockdown imposed to curb the Covid-19 infection.

According to him, only pharmaceuticals, food processing, and emergency product manufacturers can operate their factories following the health guidelines.

According to the country’s industrial police headquarters, the Gazipur district administration conducted a mobile court operation today and fined Unimas Sports Wear for running their factory, violating the government's directives.
