Cotance secretary-general comments on microplastics

18 January 2021

Gonzalez-Quijano explained that, as there is evidence that microplastics do not fully break down, traces can enter the oceans, where they are consumed by fish and can then enter the human food chain.

As a result, these materials may not be the sustainable alternative to leather that they proclaim to be: leather does not cause these issues and therefore, Gonzalez-Quijano argues, it should remain a key material in the manufacturing of clothing, upholstery and other goods.
