Shoe makers in Nigeria have urged the government to bring a stop to the importation of second-hand shoes, as it is detrimental to the local footwear industry.

It has been said that Nigerian attitudes towards homegrown products needs to change as well, with the coordinator of the Made In Nigeria Shoe Expo, Emmanuel Ugbodaga, stating “Even when we produce high quality shoes at affordable prices, Nigerians still believe that foreign ones are superior. This mentality requires a re-orientation of the mind-set of Nigerians by the government.”

Government officials are yet to comment.
