Production: TIL produces around 60 million square feet per annum with a total turnover of US$125 million for Tata’s Leather & Leather Products Business. The TIL supply chain also covers all regions of India as well as locations in Bangladesh, China, Ethiopia, Zambia, Indonesia, Australia, Russia, Saudi Arabia and in the EU. They produce leather from cow, goat, sheep and buffalo for footwear, garment and all types of leathergoods.

48 million square feet is produced for Tata’s own manufacturing capacity which plans to be increased to 90 million square feet when Tata expands into the upholstery, sports shoe and leather goods segments.

Other information: After completing a masters degree in leather technology from A C College, Madras University, Kaul joined the leather business of Tata International in 1975. He was instrumental in improving productivity and profitability while managing the transition of Tata’s traditional market base in Europe, which was declining, to the fast growing Chinese market. He was promoted to vice president of the Leather & Leather Products division in 1993 where Tata became the first leather company in Asia to be certified with ISO 9000 and ISO 14000. O K Kaul was appointed president of the Leather & Leather Products Business in 2008. He oversaw developments in chrome free leathers and the capacity increase for finished leather at the company’s Dewas plant. In April 2009 was appointed executive director of Tata International Ltd Worldwide encompassing leather & leather products, engineering and new business opportunities.
