Tanneries and locations: There are three tanneries in the group located in Asia.

  • 1. HTL Leather Pte Ltd, Singapore
  • 2. HTL Leather (China) Co Ltd, Kunshan, Jiangsu Province, China
  • 3. Trends Leather (Yangzhou) Co Ltd

Production: Two tanneries in Singapore and Yangzhou focus on finished leathers for HTL’s furniture upholstery plants. The tannery in Yangzhou processes wet-blue.

Other information: Publicly listed HTL International started out as a sofa maker in 1976, and grew to become one of the world’s leading manufacturers of quality leather sofas and leather tanners with an annual turnover of $695 million.

HTL’s sofa manufacturing business is well supported by its own leather tanneries in Singapore and China. Today, it exports close to      95% of its range of sofas to key markets in more than 40 countries including Europe, the USA, Asia Pacific and Australia.

Phua has 40 years experience in the furniture business since founding the business in 1976. Phua is responsible for spearheading the group’s entrance into China. He relocated to China in 1995 to oversee and manage the groups China based operation.

The first HTL tannery began operating in Singapore in 1994 followed by a further two plants located in Jiangsu Province in China, which were built in 2000 and 2003.
