Stahl, headquartered in the Netherlands, has acquired Clariant’s Leather Services business.
Stahl is a specialist in high-quality chemicals such as dyes and coatings for leather as well as performance coatings for all kinds of materials.
Stahl has taken over all activities of Clariant’s Leather Services business, including manufacturing sites in Germany, Italy and India, and laboratories in several other locations. Next to that, approximately 570 Clariant employees entered into Stahl’s employment. Thanks to the acquisition, Stahl now covers the entire leather processing chain.
With more than 1,800 employees at 11 manufacturing sites and 38 laboratories in 23 countries, Stahl is expected to realise an annual turnover in excess of €600 million.
"Thanks to the acquisition, we have become the leading market player in chemicals for leather products in terms of knowledge, expertise and range of technical solutions," said Huub van Beijeren, CEO of Stahl. "As we expand our market and product coverage, we are able to boost our innovation power, sustainability expertise and service levels. This enables us to respond even better to our clients’ needs."
Sustainability is one of the key topics in the leather industry. To strengthen its leadership position, ‘innovation to secure a sustainable future’ will be Stahl’s priority during the coming period.
"Now that we have combined our forces, we are able to accelerate the process of making the entire leather processing chain more sustainable," van Beijeren commented.
