Kazakhstan’s National Statistics Agency reported that leather industry production in 2002 was 36.8% higher than in the previous year. In comparison, the annual increase in industrial output as a whole was 9.8%.
This is according to BISNIS, the US Depart-ment of Commerce, Washington DC.
According to the Interfax news agency, in Kyrgyzstan, the National Statistics Agency published export figures for leather and leather products worth US$5.1 million in the same year. Imports were worth $5.9 million.
The proportion held by the leather sector in overall exports last year increased to 5% from 2.2% in 2001.
